Nickel ores are mainly divided into sulfide nickel ores and oxidized nickel ores, with significant differences in beneficiation methods. Crushing and Grinding
Jaw crusher (primary crushing): Raw ore (200-500mm) → crushed to ≤100mm
Cone crusher (secondary crushing): ≤100mm → ≤30mm
Ball mill (fine grinding): ≤30mm → ground to -0.074mm (200 mesh) accounting for 60-80%
Key parameters: Grinding fineness (-200 mesh ratio), pulp concentration (60-75%)
Flotation (core process)
Bulk flotation (flotate all sulfide minerals first, then separate nickel concentrate)
Preferential flotation (directly float nickel minerals)
Concentration and Filtration
Thickener: Flotation concentrate (70-80% water) → concentrated to 40-50% water
Filter (pressure/vacuum filtration): → water content ≤15%
Drying (if necessary): → water content ≤8%
Crushing and Washing
Jaw crusher: Raw ore (large pieces) → ≤50mm
Ore washing (removing clay)
Key parameter: Washing efficiency (removing -0.1mm argillaceous materials)
Gravity separation (optional)
Spiral chute/shaking table: Recover coarse nickel minerals (e.g., nickel limonite)
Key parameters: Feed particle size (1-3mm), gravity separation recovery rate (50-70%)
Magnetic separation (optional)
Low-intensity magnetic separation: Recover nickel-iron ore (e.g., magnetite containing nickel)
High-intensity magnetic separation: Recover nickel in hematite and limonite
Smelting (main method)
Pyrometallurgy (RKEF): Ore → rotary kiln drying → electric furnace smelting → nickel-iron (Ni 10-30%)
Hydrometallurgy (HPAL): High-pressure acid leaching (H₂SO₄) → nickel-cobalt solution → extraction → electrowinning nickel
